I have spyware and its keeping me from running any programs

    I read the "do not post till you have read this" and it didn't help too much because my computer will not open any of the programsfor scanning. I have a crappy pc with windows 98. It has an AMD Athlon processor (EP-7KXA) I have no idea what that means, but that's about all I know. I also have internet exploreer 6.
    A couple days ago when I opened IE it went to a site that said about:blank I think. Today I opened the browser and it keeps opening www.utruuh.globe-finder.cc/bayzm/ I tried deleting cookies and stuff like that but it keeps coming back. My computer will not open any programs at all. It just shows a box that asks what program I want to open it with.The internet is the only thing that is working. I downloaded most of the filesin the "read this" article. cwshredder, kill2me,about:Buster would not openthe zip files. I got an eror message for those. Help!

    You may need WinZip

    Are you saying you cannot run of the scanning programs or just the online scanners?
    If you cannot run any of them, you probably will not even be able to run HijackThis to post a log. HijackThis is also in a ZIP file.

    A ZIP file is not a scanning program and it does not execute. It is a compressed file. Try downloading WinZip and install it. Then see if you can extract the programs for the ZIP file.

    I have run a couple symantec virus scans including the one you had a link to, but the link to spywareblaster did not work. The online virus scan and one from my norton disc said I have no viruses.

    What does this mean "but the link to spywareblaster". The link is fine. It's right here on MG's Did you download WinZIP yet.

    Did you run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot S&D and the rest of the stuff in the READ ME FIRST?

    I downloaded winzip, but when I tried to open about:Blaster I got a message that said "acrobat could not open file because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted." I cannot run Ad-aware,CCleaner or any others. All I get is a windows "Open with" message box.

    You downloaded WinZip, but did you install it? If you installed it, it should have opened automatically with WinZip.

    It would seem that you have a virus/spyware preventing you from running executable files. I just did a search for online virus scanners, and would recommend that you do the same. Choose the one by PC PitStop, and run its AV scanner. Post back with results!

    Winzip is not a zip file. It comes in a .exe file which is directly runnable. So if you downloaded WinZip you need to run it (double click on it from a Windows Explorer session) and it will bring up the WinZip installed. After installing Winzip, file associations for most compressed file types (include .zip files) will be associated with WinZip. Now when you double click on a .zip file, Winzip will automatically run and show you the contents of the .zip file. Now you can decide what you want to do. Like exact all files, a single file, add files, etc.
