I Have To Keep Hard Booting Internet Connection

I'll start out by saying, my computer skills are pretty basic. But with clear instructions, I've found I can do most things. Anyway, recently my husband got a LINKSYS SRS. We have two laptops that connect by wireless and they work fine. Our desktop is connected directly to the LINSKY, via the modem.

The problem is everytime the laptops connect, (Or this is all I can figure out) the desktop is then unable to connect to the internet. It gives a "Not Responding" response. This also happens if the computer is left on standby or just sitting for a long part of the day. I have to disconnect the internet cable from the modem and restart the computer. And this only works the first try about 40% of the time. Some times it takes several tries, and I can see nothing being done different between the times it works and doesn't work.

I have run scans with my Norton anti-virus 2005, SE Adware Personal and Spybot. They all come up with absolutely nothing. Does anyone have any ideas? I am tired of spending an hour every morning trying to get internet going.

 

Get a firmware update for your router and see if that helps.

Also what is the OS (Operating System) on your Desktop and Laptops?

 

what i do, is get a usb wireless adapter, and plug it in the desktop, and setup a peer to peer [ad hoc] wireless network between the three.

but, it sounds like the dns number for the pc is not setup or it won't get the number automatically.

is this desktop using dsl??
if so, the host is the modem 192.168.0.1
the linksys should be 192.168.1.1
the pc should be 192.168.0.2 or retrieve the dns automatically.

this setup will not apply to the wireless laptops
