I installed new RAM and now computer will not even POST

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 that is a few years old, the hard drive is almost full, so I was going to upgrade the RAM and then add in a larger hard drive.

I researched what kind of RAM and how much I could put in my system and installed 1 GB stick and after that the computer will not even POST. Even after I put the old RAM in it still will not POST. I checked the power supply, it tested fine, but I put in a new one anyway and it still does the same thing. The lights come on, the fan runs, but nothing happens after that. The pins on the processor are a little bent, I will probably try replacing that next.

Any suggestions? I hate to put any more money into this, a new one might be cheaper at this point.

 

Perhaps you damaged the mo/bo during the upgrade. Did you do it yourself or let someone more experienced handle it?
Anyway try with a friends RAM, just in case both your old and new stick have something wrong.

 

I am a microsoft certified, A+ and network + certified technician. I worked for Dell fixing in and out of warranty systems and installing and troubleshooting networks for years before I took my current job as a software technician. I know how to install RAM. I did not damage the motherboard. I do not have any singe marks or blown capacitors. The computer just does not bood up.

I don't mean to sound like a smart alec, I'm just frustrated.

 

Try replacing your old ram and doing cmos reset

 

Or even removing the battery.
