I just bought a new PC and now I want to remove the junk that was pre-loaded. such as:

Windows media center, media player, meeting space, calendar, movie maker, photo gallery, ms offce, ms works, yahoo juke box, games and mcafee (which is more like a virus than anti-virus). Please let me know if i need any of these.

I was wondering if anybody new of some programs that might help me do a clean install as opposed to deleting the registry enteries? I thought i saw a program here that lets you pick and choose programs and then asks you for the boot up disks that came with the computer and preforms a clean install that way. if anyone knows it would appreciated.

    thank you

    Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

No need to do a reinstall, just uninstall the programs you don't need.

AFAIK media centre is part of Windows and can't be removed (I could be wrong here), the rest of the software can be removed although I don't know why you'd get rid of Office as it's used by many people and very useful (and worth having considering the price).

McAfee is also very good software, it's Norton that you need to look out for as it hogs resources.

Remove the programs you don't need via the Windows utility and then report back if there's still any issues.

Thanks for the response. I think when you uninstall a program via add/remove it still leaves junk in the registry and slows down performance. I not interested in having the programs intalled at all, hence the need for a reinstall.

A reinstall really is not needed - it's far more effort than it's worth.

Your Uninstaller is a brilliant piece of software for removing programs and also clears the data from the registry.

Also, if you were to run a full reinstall of Windows - it would keep Media Center on. I'm pretty sure this can't be removed.

    EDIT - Found this
