I just recieved an email warning me about a virus...

...containing a "patch" to remove it for me, think I should run it.....?

Nasty little buggers though... Text body was in an image and not plain text, probably to fool spam filters. I'm very pleased with Yahoo for both putting this sucker in Bulk-folder and for scanning the attachment and finding the virus. Not that I would have downloaded it anyway, but with a message like that,I just had to see if the attached file was as nasty as I thought it was... It was!

Not so funny thing is that the virus scanning on yahoo was down for 24 hours leaving the file wide open to download. I wonder how many got infected! :major

 

A friend asked me to forward the bugger to him, as he wanted to test his new AV and see if it found it. He discovered that the zip-file it came in was encrypted with a password, and the password was provided in the email. Nasty! He says ESET did what it was supposed to do though!

Yes, it's a new variant of the Storm Worm. Peacomm is the RootKit component of this infection.

Storm Worm or Nuclear War is a mass mailer virus. Simply turns your machine into a spambot and the RootKit hides the infection.
