c:\windows\system32\drivers\atapi.sys is open or use by another aplication.
close all other aplications and then click retry.

    Hi there,
You can see this error, sometimes, if you try to update - say - your antyvirus program, when it is scanning, or, even updating itself, without your intervention.
First, I would suggest that you temporarily turn off automatic updates, and try again, maually.
The turn it back on again, when , if, the update succeeds.

How are you trying to install SP2?
    There are two versions:
The one that comes on CD from microsoft or computer mags (both free) contains the entire setup for any computer it might encounter. I have never had any problem upgrading computers using this route.
The download from microsoft website using windows update is 'tailored' to your pc. All the problems I have encountered have stemmed from this version. It's big, prone to download error/interruption, and unreliable.
your best bet is to uninstall any part of sp2 you have and start again from CD.
If it does not show up in control panel > add/remove programs try this

    start>run>type in
    C:\windows\$ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe
    click OK
Follow the sp2 removal wizard instructions

Very useful information from studiot, regarding, reinstallation.
If you have anything else that you need to save, save to cd (xp will do this, without other software), and follow studiots guide.
