I know this has been discussed before...

I want the run-box way of removing windows messenger. I found a link to the old thread with that in it, but somebody *cough* MA *cough* deleted the thread and the link came up as bad. What is the run-box way of removing it?

BTW, installing XP Sp1 gives you the option of removing messenger in add/remove windows components.


It was part of the lawsuit thingy...

 

Nooooooo... I wanted root....

 

Plus the earlier methods that simply crippled WM & kept it from running also tended to cause Outlook Express to hang interminably when opening, as it was still trying to get WM to open. Removing it clean leaves OE free to boot quickly.

 

I just renamed the Windows Messenger file "MessengerBites" & that did the trick! Of course, if this could cause problems, someone please let me know.

That only removes the button from the start menu for me... i thought i was running sp1...

How can I figure out what sp i am running on?

 

start, run, Winver.

It removes it for me.

If it doesnt, edit your sysoc.inf for the msmsgs line and remove the HIDE.

Leave evertyhing else.


NOW remove it from there

 

I have sp1, but i still can't uninstall it...
