I know youv'e heard this before but.......

upgraded from ME to Xp (a while ago) and sometime during the updates my computer will no longer recognize my LG Electronics CD-RW. When I tried to update driver there is no list any longer. Also i have sound but the CD Players will not play audio disk but will read data disk. Is this crazy or what? Also be aware that I only know this much about computers <-----> confused

 

Any ? or ! in Device manager?

 

In device manager I have a an X at the beginning of the device. I did get an error msg saying "Cannot find MMDRIVER.INF file needed to install drivers.
Copy original file on disk 1 to your sysem32 directory" I tried finding this file on win98,win ME and xp disk but no luck.

 

What is the device name? Thats an odd message. Can you make a screenshot of it and post it here?

 

No I cant make screenshot as I found the inf file at "infdump.com". Dl'ed to syst32 and no dont get that error msg but....i still dont have any drivers listed. Now the X is gone from device manager but cd rw still only partially works. Wont burn, wont play music but will read data disk. Driving me Crazy

 

sorry the devices name is a LG electronics....HL-DT-ST-RW-GCE 8525B. I dl'd the firmware and it runs but doesnt install or say anything about a driver.

Good try.....I did everything it said with one big problem...there was no upperfilter or lowerfilter listed in the registry....then microsoft told me to check my help file whish was useless....:cry

 

Give me the exact key you looked at in the registry. What did you see?

 

Thank you so much for your help. I got tired of messing with it and just wiped the hard drive and re-installed XP. It works great now other than I have to find all my sites and re-install programs. But bet this once it's up to par, I will burn a disk with all my stuff on it. Thanks Again
