Just downloaded Chrome and tried it out. I have dial up and it really is much faster than Firefox! It may not have any add ons but it really is nice. What does everyone else think?

I installed Chrome on 5/8/09 to take a look at it. It is fast, although I would not say it's much faster than Firefox; it seems similar in speed on my Vista laptop, perhaps slightly faster than Firefox. I do not have any additional add-ons installed in my Firefox browser except the ColorfulTabs extension.

I still use Firefox as my primary browser but I discovered a nice feature of Chrome. I am taking a class on HTML and discovered that right clicking on a web page in Chrome shows a menu option called Inspect Element. That shows some useful information on the web page, more than than the standard View Source option.

Adding Favorites in Chrome seems a little weird. I haven't quite got the hang of that part of it yet.

But, overall, Chrome seems like a serious contender in the browser arena. I won't be surprised if we see it gaining a growing following among computer users.

Firefox for me has become a living joke. Its no more secure, yet people tell you it is still, it wastes same 120 or so megs that IE does with Maxthon and I just can not get used to it and I tried. Still, it is much better then IE all around. Google outrenders anything I have seen, if you don't see it, you must be on a Celron with a Intel video card :) YOu might be thinking of faster in different ways, if you could measure load times of web pages, you would find it faster then IE or Firefox.

P.S Latest IE is the biggest pile of dung to date. Congrats Microsoft on making it uglier, slower and harder to use then ever not to mention the crashes.

This was mainly the reason why I didn't download Chrome: http://***********.com/tech-policy/...e-eula-controversy-our-bad-well-change-it.ars It was regarding their EULA. See they've changed the EULA after their mistake.

I believe that Firefox is a bit safer due to their security updates fixed faster than Microsoft. Firefox was considered safer initially due to a lower % of folk using it and that safety belief is still around from the olden days. Guess is that many forget that Windows Updates still need to be done when having other browser(s) installed.

Firefox is definitely faster than IE 7 for me. Read a bit about IE 8 prior to its automatic updates and mumbled .... forget it and block it.

PS: Deng, link is not valid. Tried to fix it, not working. Sorry.

Actually, the link you tried to use is not the first story, but after Google changed their mind and went back on the EULA which said they owned any content you transferred, which would not hold up in court anyhow.

Yes, I knew that there were other earlier stories on Chrome re their EULA and believe one of those links were posted here at MG.

    Forgive me - if I don't ask I won't know ...

    1. If one were using Maxthon, wouldn't one still be using IE (isn't Maxthon an add-on to IE - or have I got that backwards - as usual?)?

    2. And, if there is any sort of consensus, how does Opera stack-up against Firefox in terms of; a.- security and b. - speed?

I (personally, which is not saying much) would be hesitant to switch to Chrome yet as I have come to appreciate the Firefox Security Add-on's (No Script, and a few other add-on's) - though they probably slow me down much more than I care to be s-l-o-w-e-d ...

I would say cheers to Major Attitude about IE7. I never touch the browser unless I'm doing a Windows update. I don't have much performance on my computer (Dell Optiplex 150 1Ghz, 512 Megs RAM. No Graphics Card. :cry and as I said before, dial up connection.) I know, pathetic. But I'm just saying that there was a big difference in websites popping up on Chrome than Firefox.
