    Hi all,
I have been spending hours trying to get my car camera clips to work on my computer.
I have searched for codecs and installed a variety of media players that are avi player specific including DIVX, VLC and MPlayer and AVI Player.
I have installed all updates for my computer and I have the very latest version of Windows Media Player.

    What am I missing?

I don't know how to install a codec.
I know how to install a .exe program.

I failed to mention it does use an SD card which I take out and put into my pc and try and play but it won't work.

I also have another sd card which I didn't notice wasn't recording until I did a routine check of my gadgets.
That has some old videos which play but I can't delete whether I place my sd card holder into locked position or not. Damned thing won't allow me to format it either.

Some devices have proprietary files that will not allow you to work with them on a computer. Devices like closed circuit security tvs, digital recorders and some digital cameras come to mind. So you might be wasting time trying to do the impossible.

Just like digital cameras, the software in your car camera should allow you to delete files and format cards. Have you tried it?

You also failed to post the brand and exact model you own.

    It used to work.
I would take out my sd card. put it into my pc and play the recorded video.
It won't now. I always used to use WMP.
EJB - I tried your recommended program and plugged my camera directly into my pc. Still not working.

I attach below screenshots of my problems.
Instead of the AVI image I would normally get a thumbnail image of the video I want to view.

The second image shows the error message I get.

I don't use WMP; in fact I never bother to set it up on any computer. (It was set up on one computer and only because I rescued it from a previous owner who was going to throw it away).

    Grab VLC portable. https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable
Run it and click on Media, then Open file and select one of the MOV files above.
    Does it work?
If so, you might want to install VLC and set it as your default player for AVI files.

    Doesn't work Plodr :(.
I am now thinking my gadget itself is corrupt which consequently may corrupt any sd cards put into it.
    I appreciate your help.

Sorry to hear that. About the only thing VLC can't play is Bluetooth.
