Somebody please help! I bought a new DVD Drive for my comp. I tried to install it myself and I unplugged the cables from my drives and now I can't remember which one goes where. My comp won't boot now without an error message. I tried to plug it back in but I keep getting the error message it says "drive 0 seek error" or "drive one seek error" or something like that.. please help! I tried plugging the cables back in using all combinations and rebooting it doesn't work :(

Did you check the jumpers? Thats important. The cables should not matter *too* much, its the jumpers that will screw you up. Its an easy fix, once you understand how it works. Heres some basics:

On your motherboard, you should have at 3 primary places to plug in your cables. If you look closely they are marked, possibly, IDE0 and IDE1, which we will use as an example. Lower number is the one your computer boots from. This cable should go to your hard drives. Most people believe the main drive (master) should be on the end.

The third one is smaller and is for your floppy drive.

The second one is commonly used for your CDROM drives. Again, you need to run the cable to the drives and make sure the jumpers are set to master and slave.

My guess is you plugged IDE0 into your CDROM drives, so your machine is trying to boot from the CDROM. Verify IDE0 is going to your HARD DRIVES and IDE1 is going to your CDROMS.

THANKs. I finally got my comp running again. Somehow a setting in the BIOs got activated and the comp was looking for a boot device that didn't exist on the comp. So I disables that option in the BIOS and I'm back up!
