I need help! MP4

Help once again. I have a compressed codec file and two avi formated videos all on one CD. They are from a surveillance camera. I have extracted the codec and tried to open the videos using GOM Player. Says can't locate codec. Expanded files show to be MP4. What am I doing wrong since I have the missing codec and the files in the same folder? Help! I need to get this open for a case I am working on.

Give VLC a try, or try going to MajorGeeks download and see for a set of Codecs.

Hi

As well as doing what Elder_Usr mentions above in installing a codec pack to cover the MP4 files and Vista Codec Pack is good(works with XP too) you could convert the MP4 to a more universal file type in AVI by using Handbrake which is free.

Mention conversion of the file as if you need to use this video file on other PCs and maybe in a court then not all PCs will be setup to handle MP4s, but will likely be able to run an AVI in Windows Media Player

You might be trying to open something that needs a special program. Someone posted here about trying to view surveillance tapes and while searching, you need the program from the company that makes the camera.
