HI all i'm new here and could really use some help.
I've been playing battlefield 2 now for a while...it played great until now, every time i play it is very choppy, almost as if something is running in the backround. i recently re formatted my computer and that's pretty much when my problem started. i've tried updating my video card driver, lowering my graphic in game settings, also tried the game offline in single player thinking maybe it was my internet connection but still ran choppy. i've ran a video card benchmark program and i'm averaging about 975 fps, i have absolutely nothing running while i play such as antivirus or spyware programs, and like i said before the format the game was playing smooth at medium to high settings, if i didn't game on my computer i would probably never notice this as everything else runs fine...but as i love playing bf2 this is driving me crazy...if someone could please give me some ideas on how to solve this problem i would really appreciate it. and i ran fine with these specs until about a month ago.

    specs. p4 2.4 gig
    video-evga 6600gt 128mb
    hd-120g
    ram-1024mb

have you downloaded and updated your motherboard drivers after the reinstall, also have you checked your card for overheating, you could also try setting the performance slider in video card properties to high performance

check the stickies in the spyware forum also to be sure your free from spyware,do you have 20% free space on your harddrive, and set max minimum page file to 1gb,cont panel, system, advanced, performance settings, advanced virtual memory

EDIT also make sure your comp is clean of dust, especially your cpu heatsink and video card heatsink

i just took my computer apart and made sure i cleaned it all out with compressed air...it was pretty dusty in there i hooked it all back up and still the same i have the latest driver for my mother board as well and my video card, i'm running webroot spysweeper and norton antivirus 2006, both where purchased about 1 month ago so the definitions are the latest ones. i run a scan on both and it comes up i'm virus free and spyware free as well. it's very frustrating because everything i try does nothing. and i mean i just don't get it...the game gets so choppy that i can't even move at times, then it will be a little less choppy. but never smooth like it used to be....it's like my video card can't handle the graphics, but i know it can because it ran fine before.

also i have enough space i'm only using about 15 gigs from my 120gig

yes the spysweeper and norton antivirus are always disabled...as for the driver i see no point in downloading any other driver. the one i have was working just fine before. but i do appreciate the help, thank you.

Have you had a firewall installed this is essential, download this program

    http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.html?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_3264&langx=en&a=

run the cpu arithmic and multimedia benchmarks to check your cpu is performing ok,run the memory benchmark also and compare to the memory closet to yours, also run the analysis and advice in tools see if any problems spring out there will be but most can be ignored, have you tried reinstalling the game and have you downloaded the latest patches early bf2 has a known memory leak that can degrade performance,do any other games run poorly

also download and run 3dmark 2005

    http://majorgeeks.com/3DMark05_d4376.html

press cont, alt, del check that any proccesses arnt using cpu time it should at 99% idle when on the desktop

Have you opened task manager to see if there are any processes that are using the cpu,it should be 99% idle when your just on the desktop

set the performance slider in vid card properties to high performance and compare the results to this chart your card should get around 3000 or just under due to your cpu and chipset,if it does it would point to a problem with BF2 or a cpu or memory problem
