I need Help Trying to change a Heat sink on a NorthBridge Chip

Im looking to get a Northbridge Chipset Cooler for my MOBO " MSI K9N SLI Platinum Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard" There reason? See here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130048

If you read it, they say as a Con that the NB cooler gets Very Hot So I Need help with Finding and Help on INstalling a better one

 

MSI northbridge heatsinks are pretty tricky to remove,removing it will void your warranty,if you damage the plastic clips with pliers ect this will probably be noticed if you try and return the board at a later date,I'm not saying dont,just be carefull

They also sometimes dont apply the thermal paste evenly,so a good thing to try first is reinstalling the stock heatsink with some fresh thermal paste

 

I got a nice lil Tube Of Artice Silver 5, is that only for CPU's or can I put I tiny Drop on it?

 

Thats fine,clean the top of the chip and heatsink with isopropyl alchohol and then apply the paste,the easiest way I have found to unclip the little one way barbed plastic tags "if thats what it has" is to find a tube thats the same size as the hole in the motherboard I used a plastic ball point pen tube with the ink removed,just press the tube down onto the barbs to close them gently and pull the heatsink until the barbs just rest inside the hole on the motherboard then repaeat on the other side and remove the heatsink

It can be quite a perrellous procedure as you have to have the motherboard on its side while you hold the heatsink with your left hand and press the barbs closed with your right

That said if your not experiencing any crashes or system instability it may not be worth doing,check your system temp using your preffered program to see how hot its running
