I need HELP!!!!

Hi,

My computer crashed. I was running Windows XP Pro. Any time that I attempt to run the system recovery, it tell me "no operating system found". I am attempting to reinstall it and I am getting the following message: "The file dmio.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue." When I press a key to continue, the system will restart and then go through the setup again and give me the same error. I am not sure what to do. This computer is for my kids. Can anyone help me.

I did a little research and it seems as if some people have fixed this with chkdsk /r or with sfc /scannow by running them from the recovery console prompt. I'm pretty sure you can't run sfc from the recovery console, but there's a chance I'm wrong. You could try running the chkdsk though; be sure to put a space between 'chkdsk' and the '/r' or it won't run. Running chkdsk can take a VERY long time, esp. if the drive is really messed up and/or really large, so be VERY patient. It may appear to lock up; you may see the progress percentage counter actually go backward (like from 68% back to 52% for example); these things are normal. Just wait. It will finish, eventually.
