i need help

ok i have win 98 2nd edition,,i have problem with computer not mine whew ha it was hers so am trying to see if i can fix it..i cant get it to window at all only on command prompt only..have problem with himem.sys ,dblbuff.sys and ifshlp.sys,,,she dont have her window cd or start up disk at all so how can i fix it?..hope u all can help me...

typically you will find the set up files in either c:/win98 or c:/windows/options/cabs - so you may get lucky and look there.

If they are there you will probably need a cd key. If not there you're gonna need a cd.

It will not boot in safe mode either?

One other thing you can try is rem the himem.sys line in the config.sys file using EDIT. You don’t need it, and extra garbage in there could be causing boot issues.

Would need a lot more detailed info to be of any other help though.

CP, sometimes you DO need himem.sys entry in config.sys. I do, in mine. As you say, just rem it for the time being. Bazza
