I have a Toshiba Tecra A2 these are its specifications:

    Technology type : Intel® Celeron® M processor 340
    clock speed : 1.50 GHz
front side bus : 400 MHz
    2nd level cache : 512 KB

    Operating system Windows® XP Professional

System memory standard : 256 MB
    technology : DDR RAM

Hard disk capacity : 40 GB

I am not able to back up any files on this laptop as I believe somesort of malware/spyware/adware had infected the system. I have already been in touch with the spywaere department.

I would like to know if there is a way of reformatting windows where none of my documents or applications are deleted. In non-geek terms please.

If so how do i do it.

    THIS IS URGENT!!!!!

    Thanks

No, there isn't. If you don't want to wipe the drive and start over, try installing some spyware removal tools (SpyBot, AdAware, etc), running them in Safe Mode, and see how things look. On bad infections, I run both SpyBot & AdAware, then Hijack This!, and check again. Make sure your virus defs are up to date also.

You could email some of the small files to yourself possibly.

But if he want to save these files exactly then they are particularly important for him. So, big_problem, don't email them unless password and encode them. E-mail is a very insecure channel.

You can perform a repair install of windows, if you are running XP. This is not a format, per se, but a re-installation of windows leaving your files intact. To do it, insert the XP CD in the drive, and follow the prompts for an installation, but be sure to specify that you would like to do a repair install.

As for the internet problem, you'd have to give more information. What type of connection is it? Do you have a router? Is the connection shared?

the internet connection is fine, but the software, AOL, is not working. Even after reinstalling it a couple of times, which obviously shows that there is some sort of malware/spyware/adware. I have run all the programs suggested and problem is still there.
