okay, I have a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista home Premium SP1 and, I'm running on an external display.
Theres something definately wrong with this computer, the only profiles that work are the standard users,
my administrators file does not work, and whenever I log into it, it starts working totally fine, but after about half a minute, the screen goes blank and it just leaves my desktop background and gadgets in view
and I can't go into windows safe mode to try and fix everything, and I know the safe mode works because I logged onto the administrators account (by eyeing out where it was :p) and I could see that windows were popping up, and the start menu was working.
If anyone can help me with this situation, I'd be soo happy.
by the way, I was not given a Windows Vista disk or anything to recover vista or reinstall it.

    Hey there,:wave

It might be a bit premature, but did the laptop come with repair install type software? this may help. Remember to backup your data nad scan it first though before adding it back to the clean system...that is if there is a nastie.

The laptop didnt come with any repair programs or anything like that when I ran the windows live one care tune up it found 2 infections and quarantined them, one is "TrojanDownloader:ASX/Wimad.gen!A" and the other one is "VirTool:Win32/DelfInject.gen!T"

    Hey guy,:wave

Have a look at the virus definitions and see what files they infect, these files might have been quarantined...also try cleaning the virii in safe mode...turn off sytem restore if still having issue and retry.

There maybe a hidden partition on your hard drive that has a recovery image on it? this may return it to like when you first got the system...with possibly a couple of options a destructive restore (kills everything like new install) or a recovery restore in which it holds your settings and data...careful the second one doesnt keep the virus...there maybe online info on how to recover the operating system from the hard drive - might be something like the f11 or f12 key before windows starts to load...have a look at the model type and info on the manufacturers website...

You might even have to go into the BIOS and enable a recovery restore option...just been working on a Packard Bell that had these options...so would be surprised if other name brands didnt have similar options...?

Tried Windows Defender?? looking at your startup files and see whats going on anything like update software etc...I dont know if vista has a msconfig...

    G luck:cool

ahhh....i thought that might be a virus....i read someware that they did a studdy on how long it takes a unprotected pc to catch a virus when on line and the results were......wow.......it took like 3.87 sec or some thing like that i cant remeber exactly but it was amazing how fast you can get infected. i would install some sort of virus protection for the just in case fact, you never know these days...your friend could give u a disk they burned and boom or u transfer a file from 1 computer to the next and boom.thats all it takes. im glad you figured this out and got it fixed. but keep in mind their could be more on their and widows not find them so i would download one quick and scan.:major

im still having the same problem :\ and all I want to do now is run it in safe mode.
but I have an external display, and every time i go to run it in safe mode it doesnt show up on the monitor, how do I fix that while NOT being on an administrator account?
Cause its my admin account on this laptop thats screwed up
