I Need Major Needed!!!!

Reading through help forum I saw that I could get AdAware SE update from here.

Downloaded zip and tried to install but got this message from Windows instead.:confused

I can't update nor can I uninstall old program! :cry I tried to install AdAware 2007 twice but it would get within 1 to 2 seconds of finish and it would quit with this message from Windows.

Error 1722 - There is a problem with this Window Installer package. A program run as part of the set did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Also before installing the new AdAware 2007 I tried to uninstall from old program from add/remove but it could not open log files so went to "All Programs" and tried to uninstall old program from there but it could not open file!!! confused:confused

Please can you help with this problem, I am going nuts here! :banghead

Forgot to mention that I have run all virus, spy ware etc. search programs that I have and came up clean. I run Window XP Home Edition.

Also I have to type this out on my note pad (copy/paste) as it takes me an unreal time to type it out in this box!! :confused

While waiting for help from someone I went on to read some of the other post. I got a clue as to what to do next when reading that someone googled the error #! Duhrolleyes....why didn't I think of that!

Anyway I found info at these two sites so will give one of them a try.....wish me luck. I will post what happens.....guess I am finally learning. Maybe these links will help someone else. :major

Been awhile since I used Ad-Aware but remember that you had to move the file to manually update the definitions, you downloaded the def file which is a ZIP and that will not up-Grade Ad_Aware or run on it's own, also the def file was for 2007? You would need 2007 installed prior most likely.

Up-Date is the definitions .zip, Upgrade is the software has .exe file

If you look in FAQ it will tell you how to update manually.

Stop and take a deep breath and wait for a answer in forum before you continue. Not sure what the status of your Ad-Aware is now if installed and if so what version, is it still working? All the errors were associated with ZIP file or did you download .exe also and try to install that?

Take a breather and tell us where you're at, remember we can't see/know what has been done. This is just software and will wait till tomorrow, don't pull your hair out over it.

 

Also noticed your Norton link, what Norton/Symantec Software do you have installed?

I have AdAware SE Personal 1.06r1 Personal.....last update was 12 27 2007 for SE1R210 and yes it is still working.

I have always been careful to get all updates and run at least once a week, sometimes twice if on line a lot. I got the update zip file here from Major Geek but was not knowledgeable enough to get it to work.

But I had tried to uninstall the old AdAware (after I had downloaded the AdAware 2007 upgrade) when I could not get the updates. Then I was going to install the newer program but it couldn't finish install.

Went through the same problem with SpyWare Blaster but the forth time I tried to update it....well it worked and why that is I probably will never know!! :confused



The Norton/Symantec link talked about similar install problem so thought I would add it here.
