Would using a separate defragmenter such as IObit's "Smart Defrag" suffice on its own, or would it be better used in conjunction with Windows "Disk Defragmenter"?

    Thanks,

My preference is Auslogics instead of Windows' own defrag.

Did a comparison test not too long ago before and after using Windows' Defragmenter first and Auslogics' immediately after by making pics of them in Windows' Defrag window in "analyze" after both defrags and Auslogics stood out as having defragged better in comparison.

    I prefer JkDefrag 3.36
It also has a GUI: JkDefrag GUI 1.02
I've tried Auslogic's and IObit's defaggers and didn't think it worked as well or as fast.

Another Auslogics fan. I believe it to be faster and better than Windows, but it's also larger and more colorful to watch.

Thanks again to all. I am currently using JK Defrag on this PC as it is a smaller program, and space is limited on this older of the two PC's that I "attempt" to maintain :)cry:zzz (my PC has, I think, a 250Gig HD - my folks here only has 20Gigs).

I have used Auslogics Defrag version in the past, and was happy (?) with it, but am hoping to be able to use as small a program as I can get by with, that will also be as effective as most others.

I do like this JK, but get a bit confused when I look back into Windows Defrag to see if the '% of Free Space' has changed after using JK, and then see an even LOWER % of Free Space displayed (??).

Oh well, perhaps by the day I die I'll make some sort of sense of something or other in this tech world ...

MarkT is right. I did not read your post very well... :-D Just use the one you like better, and ignore the other one. If you like Window's defrag, delete the one you downloaded. I would keep the JK over the winsows one.

Also, the link in my other post might help clean out some junk files. I run it before I defrag my drives.

I understand that they are two different, and separate programs, and I understand that they are not "comparable". However it "was" also my understanding, and I thought a reasonable assumption, that both were analyzing the EXACT same data/info, the difference then being in how they handled/processed/dealt with that data/info in the actual de-fragmentation process.

Perhaps as it seems to be the consensus over the years, from what I've read - here and elsewhere, I could/should simply unload (remove) Windows Deframenter from this machine?

Beautiful. This is the type of straight-forward, hardcore - simple information that I look for and appreciate!

    Thanks again - to all.

Thanks Fred G - I do use CCleaner (Slim), but I still always seem to have something-or-other clogging-up (slowing-down) this machine (?).

Oh well, I still have a GREAT DEAL more to learn, obviously ...

    Thanks again to all!
