Qwest has qualified my lines for DSL.

As I understand, Pair Gain lines will not support DSL.

Well, I have two phone lines feeding into one outlet, in my home office.

How do I know if these are, or arent pair gain?

The guy who hooked it up was a friend, and I told him specifically I would be using both lines for dial up.

Both lines connect over dial up at 45.3kbps-49.2kbps.

Does that mean they are not pair gain? I see a lot of info associating pair gain with sub 56k speeds, like 28.8 or lower.

One thing that worries me some is the guy who hooked up my second line told me that if I wanted a second line through any OTHER part of the house besides my office, I would hear feedback/bleed into the other line when both were in use (for voice anyway).

My office just so happens to be on the other side of where the phone line comes into the house. There is also a grey box at the bottom of my fuse box outside from the telco. I have no idea what it is.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I would like to think Qwest knows about this before qualifying me, but I really don't know about this stuff.

Qwest is currently closed for me to call, and I am impatient, LOL.

    md2lgyk I can't follow the rules

Qwest probably didn't qualify the lines inside your house, only theirs to it. What's inside is your problem.

Sorry, I have no idea what pair gain means so can't help with that. When I got DSL, I ran a new line just for the pc.

Pair Gain is used to increase the signal so it can travel longer distances. Telecomm companies use this system and it's not something that generally "fits" in your house. I highly doubt you have a pair gain system in your house. You should be safe.

    Thanks Kodo.

I think what will do is have my ISP make sure it works before disconnecting my wireless, if I am able to swing my contract over to DSL.
