Hello this is Whatsername851039, I forgot my password for that one. Anyway, I posted on here not long ago about reformatting my computer and it was the disk that I was trying to use it was faulty. I finally got another disk and it worked just fine but now my Network card or something isn't showing up. I have reformatted this computer before and it worked just fine so I'm not sure what happened now.
I have a DELL Dimension 4600 I have all the driver disks for it I have done all of that. I went to set up my network connection but nothing shows up in the Network Connections box. I have no IP address. In the Device Manager there is no Network Adapters listed or even just Network Adapters in that list at all. I have no connection to the internet either. Well obviously.
So once again any help any of you wonderfully genius people can give me is very much appreciated. I have to use my moms computer right now and my sister usually is on this when she gets off work which is 5 today.
This has me very flustered. I went to the Dell website to chat with a representative but they were all busy and the Dell on call or whatever costs money. So I don't see getting help from them. Thank you SO MUCH for your help you guys have always pulled through for me.

Dell specify an integrated network device for the 4600. This should be on the main board, above the usb sockets. Please confirm this.
If this is true then you will find the drivers for the network on the dell recovery cd under network.

Are there any devices in devices manager listed as unknown with a yellow triangle?
If so choose properties and install driver and point windows at the network section of the cd.

Ok what I've got is on the DELL resource disk under Network Drivers it has a check mark next to Intel 10/100 LOM Rev:A06-00
On the Device manager there Network Adapters isn't listed but under "other devices" there are 3 things listed which are
    Ethernet Controller
    SM Bus Controller
    Video Controller (VGA compatible)
They all have yellow question marks next to them. When I click properties they all say Drivers not installed.
    I'm a bit confused.

I have 2 resource disks one says Dimension ResourceCD the other one says for reinstalling modem software for microsoft windows.

In Device Manager you need to go to properties, install driver for each of the devices showing yellow triangles in turn.
When Windows asks for location choose browse and select the correspondoing folders in the Dell drivers CD.
When you have chosen the right folder windows will magically find the correct driver and proceed to install. It will want to reboot after the VGA. Do this one first.
The ethernet controller is your network. Do this one last

The list of drivers for the 4600 are:

    * Intel 865GV chipset driver
    * AGP 4X Video Driver or Integrated video driver (depending on configuration)
    * ADI 1980 integrated audio driver
    * Intel 10/100 Integrated NIC driver
    * ProSet II NIC Diagnostic Utility (optional)

Followed by any other hardware drivers for things like the modem or printers. The latest version of the Dell drivers are available on the Dell Support site.

If you are still having problems with the drivers I'll be happy to help.
