i can't understand why but my dvd burner decided to stop working all of a sudden here's what happened

well after a few dvd burns i started burning another movie one day and i was using dvd flick to do so and when dvd flick was done creating the image for burning, img burn started buring the image to my dvd-r, but the burning process stopped in the middle and it just froze and the dvd drive was locked (til i restarted and for those of you who are saying that restarting the computer solves alot of problems i tried that already it didn't make a difference) i also tried adjusting the disk speed on the drive (the dvd disks have a max speed limit of 16x and i adjusted it to burn at that speed and i thought using nero would work since it reconizes disk speed but since the speed on the drive was modified on to 16x the nero image burn process stopped also, like the try with img burn i was thinking that the fact the burn limit on the drive was too low, when nero tried to burn it at what it thought to be 16x i think it was going slower than it should, half of the process was finished, and yet another disk ruined)

i tried 2 brands of disks and ruined many of them so i know that the disk brand isn't the problem
i am confused with this because it burns audio cd-r's cd-rw's and data cd-r's and cd-rw's and data dvd-r's and dvd-rw's, fine but dvd vidoes won't burn all the way, what is my problem i tried alot of troubleshooting but nothing works i need help

If the burner is burning any type of DVD disks then I would think you can rule out hardware.

Since you used DVDFlick to author the files they should be on your HD. Did you limit the DVD folder to 4.34GB since this is what will fit on a disc? You probably did. I would say try one more burning program--CDBurnerXP letting it select the appropriate burning speed. [I've had Nero give me burning errors (I've never been a fan of ImgBurn especially within DVDFlick) and had luck with CDBurnerXP. Worst case another 50 cents down the drain. ;)

also, since you are only having problems with this one image, why dont u make another one and test it out.

i've made several images and all failed, wasted about 5 disks each but i will try the cdburnerxp suggestion

i also have another question directed to sach2

how do i make cdburnxp automatically detect my burn speed
also does it make a difference if my drive's properties has the dirk recording speed at a certain limit will it affect the way the program burns

also is this the button you check when you want it to automatically detect your appropriate burning speed

    okay this just in

sorry i have been making too many posts in a row but i just need to let you know

i have just tried the cd image on cdburnerxp the image that i have been trying to burn for months and i have found out that i set the memory limit on the cd image authoring and cdburnerxp stopped in the middle of the process like all the other burning software i have used what do you guys make of this (even direct copies of pre authored dvds aren't burning correctly)

i need some help is it that the drive is no good anymore

    Hmmm, that's really puzzling.
Sorry, out of ideas from my end. Only a couple more things I can think of
    - uninstall the optical drive via the device manager, reboot, and reinstall it again. Probably a useless suggestion, but never hurts to try.

    - From your screenshot, I see that you are burning in Session-at-once mode. Maybe try Disc-at-once?

-Any hard drive errors that's causing read problems? Run a defrag analysis and a chkdsk /r once on the hard drive. It's takes a lot of time though :/

Otherwise, held over to cdfreaks, they are experts on things optical drives there. They may be able to figure out the problem.

Don't understand what you mean by this. Maybe use the default settings?

i just ran a defrag and the analysis showed that the image that i was trying to burn was a fragmenting problem (i think 157 fragments) it looked better when i deleted it, now i am asking how much disk space is needed to burn an image to dvd
(this might not be the problem but still not giving up i'll soon test the drive on another system to see if it's my computer or the drive itself i've used it alot since i bought it)

as for the chkdsk i ran it in cmd.exe and it showed that there were some errors and i ran it with chkdsk/r and it told me to restart the computer after i agree to schedule the checkup, after doing so it started scanning the disk for a full hour and i don't think it fixed anything, still we'll know the truth after i test it on another system

now i just attached the drive to a different system and tried to copy a dvd that i already have (if i tried to do what i was doing before which was taking a video file and author it with dvd shrink that would take too long so all i did was just take a dvd i already have a copied it) and for some reason the dvd burner worked on the other system (no suprise there) and still doesn't work on mine (well i don't know for sure i just uninstalled bricopaks which is a program that made my windows xp os look like vidta also bootscreen which made a windows vista logo come up whenever i booted up) and i have half of the hard drive memory back (47%) but the icon styles for vista are still here and i am wondering how you get rid of them completely (don't suggest a system restore i tried that already) and it also worked with img burn, i'm confused here

if it doesn't work now what should i do???
