Everytime I start my computer now it comes up with "windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" whether I click send error report or dont send it doesn't matter, after that nothing happens my icons don't show up and neither does the task bar, so I can't do anything....at all.
I keep restarting it and sometimes "dr watsons postmortem debugger" will also come up with a problem encountered message.

Before I was having this problem mcafee was saying that it found the trojan "vundo.gen.d" and that it was located in the the WINDOWS folder and then in system folder, so I assumed that it had something to do with drwatson so I saw a file called that and deleted it.

anyway I have no idea since I can't access anything but the task manager.:cry

    Hi zoeace,
    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

Sorry for the bad problems. I'm going to give you several things to try. If one thing doesn't work, go on to the next one.

    1) First of all can you go into Safe Mode by tapping on the F8 key during bootup until it gives you the different options which includes Safe Mode? If so, choose Safe Mode and then try the following:

    2) See if you can get to system restore and set your computer back to a restore point just prior to this. If you've never done this before, go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore
check the box to Restore my computer to an earlier time and click on Next. You'll see a calendar with highlighted dates. Choose one of the dates just preceeding these problems and allow your system to return to that date. See if the problem goes away.
    For Vista: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial143.html#restore

    3) If you can't get to System Restore, please click on the Windows button on your keyboard and on the letter R. This will open the small run window. Copy/paste in sfc /scannow and click on okay. A scan will run and it may ask you to insert your Windows disk. Please do this. The program will be looking for missing or damaged files and will attempt to replace them.

    4) If you are able to do any of the above, then see if you can get any of the procedures in the READ & RUN ME FIRST to work. If something doesn't work, just continue on. You may need to download this to a separate computer and transfer it using a cd or flashdrive.

    5) If none of this works, see if you can download the MGTools to a separate computer and transfer the program to your problem computer and get the logs. The instructions for that are at USING MG TOOLS

Let me know how this goes?

As I type I'm on my phone waiting for the system restore to finish. I went into safe mode and got to the system restore even though the window came up saying that windows explorer had to close.

So now we'll see if I can log on properly and get rid of this vundo trojan.

    Thanks so much!
