I cannot reinstall windows nor can I get into my bios. I called toshiba and asked them about this. They said my bios may indeed be corrupt and I should flash it by taking out the battery and re-setting the jumpers.

I know a lot about computers (normal standalone ones), I assume that lap tops are the same yet compact. I am willing to take it apart to do this. Can anyone guide me through it?

The cmos battery on the A40 laptop, I seem to remember is soldered in- I tried to replace them in this , and A30 , and A60, but you need a small soldering tool, and its not easy- strip right down, I seem to remember under the motherbord, and I believe the top half comes off first, so not easy. I did a few, but only got 2 working again- so- not easy.
If the cmos date is wrong, the cmos battery usually prooved to be the culprit.
Xp will stop loading if the cmos battery is failing (got caught on a few , lost hours trying)
