    well, here goes:

i have this geforce7600GT video card from gainward (http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data/articles/2007/2211/gainward-7600gt-passive.jpg)
at first, I let it cool by its passive system (heatsink) but i was greedy for lower temps (it was about 45C idle - passive cooling -), so i placed a my old amd64 cpu fan on it (on the heatsink) after replacing the thermal compound between hsink and gpu. well ... i have this feeling when i am playing a game that fps drops even more often than did before ..

could installing a fan to the 7600's heatsink decrease it's performance? (fan i set to blow air on the heatsink)

well i've checked temps with everest and nTune's temp monitor and before i added the cooler the temp was about 45C idle.
after installing the cooler the temperature dropped to 32C idle... :-D
well ... thanx anyways , feel free to comment or wtv

    Hi

Neat idea, and nice drop in temps, do you have any pics of this mod you could post by any chance?

I'm curious to know how you got the fan in the heatsink! I've tried manually threading screws into a new heatsink and its not very practical!

So you haven't actually counted/measured (quantified) that fps are lower? In theory it shouldn't be reducing your fps but actually allow an increase, if anything, especially as you have lowered temps by ~13C. They only way I could possibly imagine a decrease in performance would be if the fan was plugged into the card and drawing power from it but even this would be unlikely. Is the fan plugged into the card or into the motherboard?

Well done, I would like to see a pic to.

I assume you could use cable ties to mount the fan "onto" the HS.

    I wouldn't even call it a mod :p

well... I guess the low fps were from the fact that I had installed some weird video driver that day :)
sorry about any confusions... anyway, here are some pictures :)

and here is the temp i get in everest. it's after 1-2 hours running time (just windows)

I want to add the fact that I replaced the original thermal compound (between HS and GPU), that was, by the way, hard and dry, with ArcticCooling MX-2
