I have an external Hard Drive (SimpleDrive near 1GB) that is having some issues.

On some files it is claiming an I/O error and when I try to move the files from the external HD to my computer the upload is so slow it just wont function.

The I/O issues seem to be related to a few PDF files that I scanned and I would love to have them but the bigger issue it the download speed and making sure other files moved over there do not have similar issues.

You sure about the size? Do you perhaps mean 1TB?

Possible solution: a) see if there is an updated driver b) replace the USB cable connecting the device to the computer.

I/O (Input - Output Error) (the most possible is a physical hardware problem)

    1. Check the USB cable to the external drive then try to save the files (use other cable if you can)

    2. Connnect in a different USB port and try to save files.

If the problem still, i recommend to you use this to save those files:

You should save all data from that External Disk, format it and check if have any Phsycal errors.

Hiren's CD have some utilities to check HDD problems.

    Good Luck, morti<

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?
Do you have any yellow ! marks next to devices in Device Manager (to find Device Manager open Control Panel up and click Administrative Tools or if Vista/Win7 type Device Manager into the Start Search box)

Run Checkdisk on that external (XP instructions HERE same instructions if you using Vista/Win7) and see if it finds any errors.

Option number 2 from itmortiz is a great one as you maybe using a slower USB1.1 port over a USB2.0 port, so if using an USB front port or USB hub or USB extention cable, dont try one of the USB ports in the back of your PC, which are generally directly connected to the motherboard.

Also give us your PC make and model or motherboard make and model?
