I only have unidirectional LAN interconnectivity

What do i mean by that?

I have five pcs on my LAN, all Win2K, connected through a Linksys router. All have static IPs assigned by me. All five can see each other. Mine can connect to the others, and the others can connect to each other, but others cannot connect to mine. On attempting to connect to mine, a window asking for login/password comes up, but when I enter the l/p (administrator/no password required), it does not accept that. I have no l/p on my pc. All were setup the same way, default user administrator, no password (I know, I know).

So why is mine the only one that is challenging other users, and why doesn't it allow a connection with the administrator login?

In advance, thanks for any feedback. This is very frustrating.

It's most likely because of the no password thing. Windows XP Pro won't even allow such a silly move. It depends on certain settings and it may even require a hack of some sort to fix, but many times server OS's simply won't allow a blank password. If you set it as blank it just wont work because windows essentially locks the account.

In short just give it a password and try and it should work.

    Thanks for replying.

I will try that when I get a chance to reboot.

I am not confident that is the problem, only because all five pcs are set up as admin, no pw, and I only have the problem with the one pc.

Remember, my pc can get into the others with no pw, but they cannot get into mine with no pw.

    ?

Could be the one that doesn't work recieved a patch that forces a password and the other boxes are just a little out of date? Although typically speaking you don't share using an admin account anyways so I don't know what else to suggest.

All pcs are cuurent on sp4 and updates. Also, without any shares set up, I should be able to connect to the machine, and I should be able to do an administrative share (c$, etc.)

Hey I agree it should technically work. It breaks a couple rules such as not having a password on the admin account, but it should work. Since i don't see anything else best i can suggest is to follow the standard set of rules and stick a password on the admin account. Also setting up real shares might solve it too. Admin shares arn't meant to be used this way.

You're not following good networking practices and yes it should work regardless, but since it isn't the best idea does seem to be to follow the rules.
