I'm sure no one has a clue because you failed to mention the brand and model of computer.

Also you say it will not boot up. Are you sure the power supply is not dead?

Try either F8 or the DEL keys when starting the machine. Not sure what "no the power is dead" means, but if will boot just try repeatedly tapping the keys I mentioned to get you to BIOS or to Safe Mode .

    Dell Inspiron pp08s
Turn on the computer and as soon as the Dell logo appears, press F12.
If you wait too long and see windows loading, reboot and try again.

When the boot device list appears, highlight Diagnostic and press enter. You'll have 4 choices: Express Test, Extended Test, Custom Test and Symptom Tree.

Which Operating System is the laptop (XP, Vista, Win7)?

Do you have an OS installation disc?

It sounds like you have a problem with a corrupt boot sector (MBR).

You definitely do NOT want to do that.
You said you have Dream Weaver on it and do not have another copy. If you restore to factory defaults, it wipes off Dream Weaver with no possible way to get it back.
That is the reason I told you to highlight Diagnostic and select it.

Hi Plodr, I think ohsomebody is talking about loading factory defaults on the BIOS screen. I think BIOS was just set back to factory default. So now a Dell splash screen with F2 or F12 options flashes and then a "No boot device" or "No OS found" type message is showing or a blinking cursor.

    Hi,

Tell us again what happens when you push the power button until it stops loading. We don't need every word about BIOS type but a general description of each screen and any error messages. What exactly do you see on screen?

  17. ohsomebody

    ohsomebody Private E-2

i push on button then get dell screen

if i dont push it says

CLINT MAC ADDR: 00 oF A9 AF 88 GUID: 44454C4C-4200-104D-8048-C2c04F4C3431.../

It is set to try and boot from a network; that's what PXE means.

You need to set it to boot from the installed hard drive. If it refuses, it can mean that the computer can not see the installed hard drive and moves down the list of boot devices to try and find something to boot from.

    Try:

    F2 during Dell Splash Screen.
Arrow Down to Boot Sequence and hit <enter>
Arrow down to PXE and hit Space Bar to disable
    Enter to close window
    Esc to exit
    Enter to save changes
Restart and give the us the error message you now see.

***BTW what are the devices in the list that have checkmarks (√) next to them in the Boot Sequence menu?

Arrow Down to Boot order and put hard srive at the top of list hit <enter>
sub menu will not come up so can not

Please list the items in the boot order after using F2 and going to boot order. On that screen where it shows/lists the boot order items does it say use spacebar to disable an item? If it does highlight PXE or Network and use it spacebar to disable.

    ***
A different strategy: Hit F12 during the Dell splash screen and from that One-Time Boot Menu select Hard Drive and describe what happens on the screen next.

I just reread the thread and see that you have tried f12 and selecting hard drive and got the blinking cursor at the top left. Do it again to verify those are the symptoms.

Do you have your DELL Operating System disc?
