i put in a second power supply

i put in a small 100 or 150 wat (i dont remember) into my 5.25 inch bays and cut off all the mobos connectors wires except a green one and a black one. then i used electrical tape to safe guard them all. next i put the green wire to the toggle switch and then the black one soldered it up (o yeah i also taped the bottom of the psu to prevent electrical charges) and pluged in things to the psu so now my cpu fan, a case cover fan, lights, and a chassis fan run on a seperate power supply than the computer. so i can run fans and lights but no computer (i did it cause i was board)

for some people a see through case would be nice but personaly I HATE THEM lol

 

o yeah and i put in da drive bay covers so the second psu is never seen unless they look at the comp from the back

 

Personally I would if just fed the wire through an empty PCI slot myself rather than punch a big old hole in the back of my case But still, great idea! Also going to give it a go if you dont mind

 

hey Bobomoomin i tried to stick the wire through the pci slot bot lol it was to big so i figured id use the DESTRUCTIVE WAY > lol and like i said to kernel geek you can do the project as long as you have to balls to flick the switch the first time

and kernel geek i do have a window in my computer is 8 by 11 same a a piece of standard loose leaf paper. that link you gave me is similar to mine but still my project was different and i aquired no help from the internet so as far as i knew it was my idea heres a pic of my computer and yes i no its mess i need to clean up BUT IM TO LAZY so yeah

yes they may be old but there loud and they kick out more bass then half the new ones

 

I would use marretts instead of tape to put those wires together especially with all that vibrating it will hold better.

 

I've been pondering doing that myself to some of the gaming machines I put together. I have a few TINY 100W power supplies hanging around, that came out of some of those extremely small footprint IBM NetVista desktops. You know, the flat ones, that are so small, they have a laptop type CD Rom drive in them? The power supplies measure 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 X 5". It's a good idea for those who like to have their tower look like Los Vegas at night. LOL

 

If you're running the 2nd one to cut down on power drain of the 1st AND allow the case to run cooler, why did you mount the thing back inside?

 

Theese are the tiny P.S's I have. Two of them are 65W and one is 100W. Remote mounted power socket too. Would prob be real good for that purpose.

i have a major MOD job going on, found this thread very helpful, i am running a p4 3.0 OC'd to 4.1 stable, 2 gigs ocz el 3200 ddr, 2x40 gig seagate sata barracuda hd's, 2x100 maxtor ata hd's, 1x80 gig maxtor ata hd, msi 865pe 2 platinum signature series mobo, 6800gt agp, big water se water cooling, 460 watt soly-tech psu, and enough lighting goodies to keep the bedroom quite toasty , however, i am currently installing all of this in a older style majorly modded server case, with enough room to live in it, found a need for more power, i also have probably 10 psu's laying around, so a choppin we will go, appreciate the info. will be posting pics in the very near future for you as well.
