I really think some people need a license to use a computer.

A few years ago, I got banned from a forum because some idiot accused me of spreading viruses because I posted a picture of a fake error message.

And just now, another Really Dumb Noob said I don't know bullcrap about computers. Yet she said that she would buy an entire new computer if hers got ruined by a rootkit. instead of wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS. Because apparently she has a real life and I don't (that's what she said). :confused

If they have that kind of money to throw away, they can be pointing in my direction,at least.:-D
But don't worry about what they think. Everybody here knows you got what it takes.:)

Tell 'em that's fine. Just send you the old one... you'll be happy to dispose of it. ;) :-D

Here's the conversation itself. I had to find it in the logs and edit out some curse words (for another forum):

Was that OP someone from this site?

No, not on this site. At least not that I know of.

I'm not trying to sound condescending, but why are you having a conversation with someone like this. They obviously don't share your interest in computers, Aimee. They are behind a computer and are feeling brave and somehow making themselves feel better by putting you down. Best thing is to not have any more conversations.

Because this person keeps insisting on IM'ing me.

    Do you know them?

How did you start im'ing? Do you post at a board together?

Sounds like the textbook definition of the person blocking an IM account is for. I'm sorry, but no matter how stupid I think someone is, I cannot conceive of telling them to go kill themselves.

Sounds like a classic case of Enfant Provocateur or maybe Jerk.

Me: Sorry, I don't talk to ignorant people.

that line really bugs me because everyone is "ignorant". I don't know how a nuclear reactor works, so I am ignorant of that.
People like to use the work, "ignorant" because it is multi-sylabic and using words of that sort,"big words" for the laymen, can make someone seem smart.
Otherwise, why not say "stupid"? which has a more applicable meaning.

Sounds like a spoilt little brat to me. You kept your composure well and didn't give this arse the satisfaction of letting them drag you down to their cretinous level. Just another loser the real world has to endure.
I particularly liked the statement, 'well see, I'm not an idiot.' Reality check. Yes, you are. Halfwit.

    No, I don't know her.

Apparently one of the people I know gave her my IM. After I asked them not to do that. :mad

They both deserve to be blocked from contacting you. That is very bad netiquette form and should not be tolerated, ever!

One can be blocked, but how to know who gave out the information.
    And for what reason?
Did the IMer ask your friend for it,or what?

Aimee - some people just do not know how to handle people who are knowledgeable in areas that they are not....apparently she was looking for a fight and maybe she knows what buttons of yours she can push......people like that are miserable and you know what they say about miserable people.....keep your chin up and know that you are appreciated here :) and BLOCK her from IMing you......:)

Why me grinning as I have been saying this for years, but sadly issues arrise in which you cannot control and do not need to as in the conversation you posted, let the user buy a new PC, their waste of money if they do nto wish to take your suggestion to help them, sadly many do think they know best, so best to let them get on with it.

Sadly education is needed and whos to give this to new/novice PC users is a topic thats raged for years, is it the OEM, Software maker or onus on the end user! who knows, but my honest feeling is a basic PC user licence "may" help educate users in basic PC use and internet safety, does the Gov do this, is it the OEM (HP, DELL etc who sell PCs) or other entity, or as free world is onus on end user, sadly onus on end user is not working as malware is rife, if we had some basic safety steps tought to users then this maybe reduced.

Dunno if schools teach PC and Internet security in the curriculum or not, will have to ask my sister if her school does to the pre-teens, all I know is I from early age tought my neices PC safety and they are good at knowing whats not right or to ask before continuing.

I tend to not repeat myself, say my honest answer once, maybe twice but after that you will not convince them to change, so not worth the energy.

I started school in '97. In elementry we didn't learn anything about internet safety, just how to type (we weren't even allowed to access the internet).
Junior high we learned how to do powerpoints (which I knew since I was frigging 10).
High school (curently in grade 11) about the same thing except in the tech courses.

    Hi Amiee

Then sadly this needs to be part of the curriculum in PC basics and Safety, including Internet Safety, will still check what UK schools are doing with my sister when I see/chat next.

The Internet Safety designed by the schools would probably be like "OMG AVOID MYSPACE ONLY PEDOS ARE THERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT GO THERE OR YOULL BE KILLED!!!!!!!!! Oh and never tell anyone your name, even if there's a million other people with the same name."

I don't use MySpace, but I think the panic is ridiculous.

I totally agree with Halo - Internet safety is SO important. Users (new) need to know what to stay away from. Sadly for me I was spoofed about 6 years ago and it was not a good thing. Fortunately I was able to undo some of the monetary damage that was done and thankfully my personal identity was not used at all. From that point on I have read alot of things and researched alot of things and now I am in puter school..our instructor was always talking about internet safety and security.

Take the advice given Aimee and block this/these people from contacting you....it is not worth the aggravation! :)
