OK, I have a problem. I did some major changes with my system, moving a partition to a new location, and transfering all of the files to the new location.

After that I restored my OS back to a point before I made the changes because I forgot to back up the changes last night when I finished. Now the new partition is no longer accessable, though it is still there but no drive letter asigned to it.

The old location restored to the original drive letter, and restored some but not all of the files that were there. Now I cannot reassign the new location with a new letter, and access the new location without the system wanting to reformat, which of course would wipe out the files that should still be there.

As far as the OS is concerned, those files never existed in that location, so doesn't want to access the partition without formattting first. Is there a way to access this partition and retrieving these files that the system doesn't know are there? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Oh, by the way, I have Windows XP Home Edition as an OS. It is the bundled software that I got with the system. Again thanks.

This is to Corporal Punishment who stood in the gap, and gave me good advice when I asked for no other reason than I did ask. Good work, and you earn the respect you get by doing what is your responsibility to do without expectation, and not taking it personal when someone takes exception to the fact that you have for some reason failed to take that responsibility seriously enough to actually read a question someone asks well enough to actually post an appropriate answer.

For those of you who think that is wrong, I am 52 years old, and I doubt there are many of you who have been around longer than me. Do any of you think that it isn't very rude to not take that responsibility seriously and do what you are here to do, no matter how you may feel personally about anyone here?

You are not hurting me, You are hurting the guy who owns this website by driving away his market. I also have a College degree, and Majored in engineering, and minored in business.

Does anyone want to tell me I don't Know anything about how this business works.

Great job Jim, They should pay you more here.

Well 23 other than me looked at your question, i didnt know how to fix your problem, and im guessing that the other 23 didnt know either. Do i want to hurt you? NO. Are we hurting the website . No. You are mad because somebody didnt jump when your question was asked, did you ever consider that we dont know an answer to your problem, we are only human and we dont have a data base to put questions into to get answers. I will not challange you on your knowledge of business, but i will tell you , if anybody here has a answer for your problem they will speak up. ed

Actually I am not mad. I got my answer, and got my files back. But let me ask you this, do you know the answers I got? Why not?

If anyone should be mad, it should be you guys and the guys who own this website, because nobody did answer here. What happens when someone Googles a search for File Restoration Software? Is it going to direct them to this website, when nobody even mentioned any to direct them to here?

So, to fulfill my responsibility to the people here I will be posting the information I got, and a rundown on what happened, for those of you who want to know for the next time the question is asked.

No response helps no one. I will also be linking to a thread on the off topic from here, for anyone who wants to continue discussing responsibility.

No, You wont be continuing this thread. If no one knew the answer, sorry about that. Everyone here is a volunteer and does this purely on their own time. That has nothing to do with business. The system may not be perfect, but this side of the website is about people helping people, not business.

1st - Thank you for your words, it was no trouble to help. I also appreciate what you are trying to write here, but you are assuming things that are way off the mark.

The people here at this forum are under no obligation what-so-ever to answer any of your questions. Quite frankly, neither am I. We do it because we like and want to help. Your problem was unique and “I don’t know”, is a very acceptable answer. You also do not have any right to an answer, just because you asked.

This site is free and basically done in a volunteer fashion. These folks are extremely exceptional people who have helped people, like you, for years for nothing more than a pat on the back and maybe a cool custom title.

You should be pleased and not angry that the geeks here had the wisdom to say “I don’t know”. 90% of the other sites some dork would have jumped in with an effort to prove his worth and you would have probably lost everything on your machine.

Anyhow, again I appreciate your words and your sentiment, but please do not call the character and integrity of the folks here into question, when it is because you are misunderstanding the situation.
