    Hey everyone,

I decided to format my family computer because it was just getting to be too much and I wanted a fresh start on it. I backed up all of our files (pictures, texts, videos, etc...) and got to work. But then when I got XP reinstalled and everything I realized that I didn't have the drivers for nessicary things such as the video card, sound card, and most importantly (so I can get online to fix everything) my network card.

As far as I know there are 2 ways to go about fixing this, I just don't know how to execute either way.

    1) I *think* there is a way to maybe get some files back? Maybe a way to do a system restore or just retrieve all of the driver files from the hard drive some how?

    2) Find all the drivers online with my laptop, throw 'em on a disk (my iPod) and put them on my desktop computer and install everything.
However, I do not know how to find the right driver files. I already tried one network driver and got some error while installing.

I realize to help me everyone will need a lot more information, but Im not sure what I'm looking for here. If someone could help point me in the right direction to finding all of this information, that'd be great.

    Thanks

Can you post the make and model # of your PC? Are the video, network, and sound cards the ones that came with the PC? If not, post their maker and model #'s.
I think you can download and save the files for the drivers to disc and transfer them.

Download and run this: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3908.html It will tell you what devices are install in your PC. Write this stuff down or save the report in a text file. Then download the stuff you need. You can also use these for the same purpose if the first one doesn't do the trick:
    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
    Belarc Advisor: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1385.html
    PCWizard: http://www.majorgeeks.com/PC_Wizard_d3846.html
    AIDA32: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html
If you get confused, post the info provided by one of the apps I've linked you to, and we'll try to provide the download links for you ;)

Okay, I got the right Ethernet drive installed and I can now get online with my desktop. I did windows update up until SP2 and now I just keep getting some error # with no explanation.

I tried downloading Avast! too because I use that as my antivirus and I get an error when installing. Overall the computer is very slow with graphics (I think I might have to update the driver still) and seems to be a bit buggy. I also tried SP2 through an EXE but get an error on that too.

    Here's the summary from Everest

Hey thanks for the drivers but everything I download, the drivers, IE7, Avast!, or whatever... when I try to install it with it says "File corrupt" or some form of a corruption message.

I have no idea what's going on with it?

I'ts sounds like you're network drivers aren't quite right. Are you very sure you've the right one installed cuz it sounds like your dropping packets thus corrupting al your downloads........
