a friend of mine got a million and one recognised viruses last week. hes got a really sluggish dell p4 512 ram so i decided to take his hd and run some anti-V progs on my own system. only problem is that when i run smit fraud fix and hijack this they only scan MY system drive and not the slave which is my mates. is there any way i can get these programs to scan this drive other than setting up the infected drive as the master?
also checked the properties of the slave and was wondering if i allow root acces (i think thats what it is but cant check right now) in the sharing tab will that help?
thanks a million to those who help and to those who viewed at least you wanted to make an effort.:major:major:major

On my machine(HP Pavilion P4 2.6GHz), I can open My Computer, right click on slave (D) and options are there for scan with AntiVir or scan with MalwareBytes.

I opened malwareytes and I have the option to scan an external hd connected by USB. The computer doesn't have a slave drive but as hrlow2 mentioned above, malwarebytes will scan that from My Computer (right click on drive).

Antivirus/malwware software will not correctly scan another operating system slaved to a pc.

In particular they will not scan memoryr and registry.

All they can do is remove recognised executables. this can be good enough to get a system working againd so that you can complete the removal there.

So bring your mate's pc to the malware forum for a complete job.
