I think i broke my anti virus

    Hi all ,
    I'm having trouble with my anti virus . I use McAfee Security Centre , and when i try to open it or scan or download updates all i get is the McAfee Security Centre logo then it dissapears. I have tried to access it from C drive and the shortcut on the desktop but to know avail . Any help would be appreciated .

    Which Windows version you using? ( just background info )

    You could try in the Event Logs to see if there is an error listed for McAfee and this will generally give you the faulting component ( Event Log is found in Control Panel > Administrative Tools )

    Or and would be my first port of call, is to uninstall McAfee and then run a cleanup tool, say CCleaner ( both Cleaner and Registry tools ) then re-install.


    You could also run an online AntiVirus scanner just to double check that you have now malware on your PC, if you do we do have steps to take in this area, but lets see if its just a faulting AV first.

    Hi , Thanks for your help . I chose to delete the anti virus and re install it . When i updated it and ran it , It found a Trojan "Downloader-UA " in the media files . So thanks again Halo for your advise .
