I Think I Changed My Maximum LBA-Sector Value

I was trying to install my c-gate 160gb drive. I ran the disk wizard, which said it detected Windows XP and asked me if wanted to continue in DOS mode, and I chose yes. and I chose yes. And then it brought up a few options, one of which was "set hard drive size." It showed both hard drives; I was able to choose each one of them individually. After choosing which one, it then displayed a screen that said "native max LBA-Sector, which equalled 156301488 and this field was unchangeable. It also displayed the current max LBA which was the same, and also unchangeable. The other option that was changeable was recommended max LBA-Sector. I don't know exactly what I had entered in originally; I thought I was overcoming the 137gb limit, which whatever I did, somehow gave me a limit of gb on the new hard drive. I am wondering if I can reboot this program and perhaps reset the maximum LBA-Sector in accordance with my hard drives,. If someone could possible give me the correct sector conversion for a 80gb hard drive and a 160 hard drive, if this will even fix the problem. If not, maybe someone has suggestions on how to fix this problem and could give me a step-by-step and links to software or any tools that might help me fix this problem.any insight or help would be greatly appreciated, and keep in mind i am somewhat computer illiterate.

 

Why are you doing it this way? (BTW, if you want the drives specs, it's on the drive on a white sticker)

Why do you want to do exactly, and what do you currently have? (eg One hard drive ATA with Windows installed etc)

 

i did not intentionaly try to change this i was trying to over come the 137gb drive limit basically i f'd with something i knew nothing about and the end result is my original 80gb drive says 47.6 total size in properties under my computer and the 160 seagate drive says it has 31.4 im trying to just one correct that and be able to use the total240 gb i have i have reformated to check for partitions there are none even upon reformat it displays the above drive statsDrive Drive Type File System Total Size Used Space Free Space % Free Volume Serial

im just trying to use the drives full compacitys i have posted a few other posts some claim its in my bios which know not very much about just havent got a resolution so i posted in another forum in hopes i can get it resolved any info u might need just ask ill provide it but if u can help please do its driving me crazy lol

 

There are ways around a Bios limit.

You can see if there is a flash available. (Best way, but only if it says it specifically addresses this issue)

You can get a controller card that is ATA133. They don't suffer from the same limitations as ATA100.

SlipStream SP1 into XP (if that's what you have). (There are registry hacks, but they aren't as good)

Some programs, like Intel Application Accelerator, or the hard disk manufacturers utility will overcome this.

Partition the hard drive into sections smaller than the limit.

 

i have been searching for these flashes and utilities to flash ,like i said this is something i know absolutely nothing about so if you can explain or direct me to some how tos which might also provide tools, that be great. not the most computer savy guy but can follow instructions well

ps i also have the hard disk from the manufacturer of the hd with this utility which is where i think i messsed it up
