I think I damaged outlook's search function

I've been trying to get rid of a browser hijacker. I was originally going using the daniweb forum for help and I used the hijackthis program. I did something real stupid and I deleated a few of the items there that I geussed may have been harmful. I also deleted a few things that I thought looked suspicious in my add/remove software control panel.

Well, I'm not doing anymore geusswork and I am currently working my way through the "run me first" thread in the malware removal thread and I may be eventually posting over there If I still have the hijacker.

Since having attempted those fixes, the search function on microsoft office seems to be broken. I have a family member who absolutely refuses to delete and organize her email and she depends upon the ability to search her emails when she needs important information. But now, there is a field for her to search but there's no search button! To make matters worse, I can't find our backup cd's (and I'm not sure our dvd rom is even working anyway).

Is finding those backup cd's the only way to fix this?

Is there a free email program with a search function that can take over the outlook email folder that we could use if I can't get this to work?

    Hi

Which Office version you using? also and it may on occasion if the installer files were not saved to the HD in a hidden folder, work in using Detect and Repair from the Office Help menu, just open Outlook and click Help > Detect and Repair.

If office 2007 then these options are gained from Add/Remove or from the Help menu in Outlook > Office Diagnostics.

Yes to your inquiry about another email app with a search function, its beta mind but works very well http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

Thank you much for the advice. I tried this feature, but I'm embarressed to say, I'm not sure if it helped or not. After the repair, the field did not come back and so I started to examine the buttons and found one that said "find" and I clicked on that one. The fields came back. rolleyes
