    Hi and welcome. :)

Why do you think you have a virus? Did your Antivirus report something?

Slow down on a computer could be attributed to things other than malware.

A few months back I had norton Internet Security on my Computer, I run a full system scan and found a lot of trojans which Norton said had to be removed manually in the registry, so I decided to reformat which hasnt worked, I am now using my laptop as the infected pc is slow, I am running mcafee internet security on the laptop, I got it free with my Broadband, and I dont want to install it on the infected pc using my new router incase any passwords get stolen

    Hi mary7,
You really need to run through the Read me Run malware removal here...

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Try to follow the instructions the best that you can for your OS version, including all the required scans, and make a new thread here...

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35

Attach all of the logs in the order instructed like this...

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880

Once you have created a new thread and attached the logs as requested one of the malware experts will take a look at your logs and instruct as to what needs to done next, Please be patient though as they can be very busy ;).

Good luck in recovering your machine from the nasties ;).

    Okay.

    As far as your options...

You can always reformat your machine. Did you use the System Restore or Factory reset that some manufactures put onto machines?

System restore is not going to be very helpful as far as malware goes, unfortunately.

Factory reset should bring your machine back to the way it was when you bought it. With most Malware, that would do the job.

Reformatting is completely reinstalling your operating system and would also clean it. You would need the disk from your manufacturer in order to do this, which alot of vendors do not supply anymore. You'd have to request one.

In both Factory reset and Reformatting, you will lose all software, files, etc you have accumulated since you got the machine.

The other option is to go through our Malware Removal procedures (this is what I would recommend): READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker)

It is very thorough and written so that pretty much any level of computer user can follow it if done step by step. When you've completed it, you can post your logs our Malware Forum where the experts there will help you get rid of all traces.

I would also suggest looking at this thread for future reference:How to Protect yourself from malware!

Thank you iain.t and LauraR for your advice, I have run the read & run malware removal and posted on the malware removal forum, Hopefully this works, or ill have to find a cd, or try Factory reset.

    Thanks
