I think my processor is dying >_<

I use the system below, it's only a month or three old, worked like a dream. However, 3 nights ago, she suddenly froze up on me, and wouldn't turn on again. Now, when I get her to, and I look at POST, I get messages like "CMOS Checksum Error" and "CMOS Battery failed", but I know those aren't the problem, because those only show up once every 3 or 4 boots. In that one long table that appears after the initial POST, when the ESCD gets updated, it actually read my L2 Cache as zero once, and "none" another time. The few times I can get into my OS, I sputter along for a couple seconds, then everything freezes up and becomes completely uninteractable. Sound like a dead processor?

Sounds like a failing motherboard if you ask me.

    Why do you say that?

CMOS Checksum Error" and "CMOS Battery failed + other things you said make it sound like to me the motherboard is failing to interface with the devices properuly.

Forgive me for putting you on the spot, but is it significant that these messages are sporadic, and don't actually show up every time?

Could be, could also not be, from my experience, I have seen more motherboards fail then processors, so thats were i would start. Might try to find a friend has similar components so you could try swapping them out.

I appreciate anyone trying to help me out, but please read my post in its entirety. The errors that I am running into are more serious than a dead CMOS battery, in which case your computer just runs on default BIOS settings, for the duration it is powered on. 'Sides, The CMOS messages are intermittent, meaning I don't see them every boot.

This is another lesson in me learning to shut the hell up when on these boards. I decided to flip the battery cuz -hell, why not?- and many of my problems dissapeared. Interestingly enough, the battery wasn't dead, as it ran a watch I had handy. Thanks guys, you just saved me like 100$ to spend on like FEAR or something. Sorry I acted like such a snob, I'm very sick and I have a short temper. Thanks again!
