My niece came to town for the Thanksgiving holidays, I have no idea what she has done but my computer is very sluggish, every time she visits it's the same problem, when i ask she simply says she does'nt know what i'm talking about. She's always on MySpace and using her iPod. Can you go back 2 weeks and restore every thing the way it was? If it can be done please help.:cry

You can, if there is enough room saved for the restore to keep 2 weeks in memory.

One thing you may want to make sure you do for future visits is password protect your administrator account on your computer and create a restricted account for her to use so that she can't change anything or download anything, either knowingly or unknowingly.

You should also go into your add/remove and find out if she has installed anything. Also, check your start up. If programs you don't need are starting up when you boot up, that could really slow things down.

Other than that, you need to give more detail. When is it slow?

Sound like you have resolved the issue before. What did you do to fix it the last times? I agree with LauraR's comment on making a secure account.

It's very slow when i'm on the internet. (I have high speed internet) on the bottom of my screen beside the start icon, i used to have a tab with the website i was on, when i went to a new web site it would appear where the last web site tab was. Now when i go from one web site to the next, another tab appears beside the last tab and it just keeps adding up. When i'm on for awhile i'll have more and more tabs side by side. Before there would only be one tab for the site i was on.

Do you have multiple windows open? What browser are you using? (IE, FF, Opera, etc.) If you are opening multiple browser windows and don't want all the tabs there, you need to change the settings. Right click on your task bar > Click on Properties > Make sure there is a check next to Group similar taskbar buttons > click on Apply Settings

From the description it sounds like you have something causing a load of pop-ups to open.

The most likely cause is adware of some sort, although if you are accessing pop-up rich sites and your pop-up blocker has been disabled in some way then that might also be the problem.

Have you tried running the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide in the Malware removal section?

More info about the browser, system etc. might give some pointers as to the problem.

One issue I've seen fairly regularly with teenagers using computers is web messenger programs, for example MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger set to run on startup. This slows the startup down hugely and I don't think it's necessary to have them running all the time. If you have icons for MSN or Yahoo in the system tray (on the right hand side next to the clock) then I would stop those from running at startup. It's a simple case of opening the messenger software, finding the "options" tab and unchecking "start xxxxxxx with Windows" or similar.

    Hope that helps.
