3 days ago my HP Deskjet 3820 broke down. Reporting paper jams, spitting out random pages, blinking lights, the cartridges won;t even come center when I open up the top. I spent hours on the support website and then another 2 hours in live chat with a tech. Wrote a few emails and was told to call an 800 number. The guy on the other end told me since it was out of warranty that I would have to pay $30 fee for him to connect me to somebody who could help me troubleshoot this problem. I asked him if I could contact his superiors but he wouldnt give me any info. The printer is barely 2 years old and it cost me $100. He did offer me an upgrade to a 3900 if i sent in my busted printer and $90. If I wanted to buy a throwaway inkjet printer I would have bought a Lexmark, but I didnt. I wrote emails but I get replies from different people every time. I called all of their registered service locations and they told me it wasn't worth paying for the repairs that I was better off buying a new one. I'm disgusted by the whole thing, I buy their product, it breaks and rather than try to help me they try to shake me down for more money! I've decided I'm going to fight them and am asking for your advice. Have any of you been in similar situations and had any success? Do you have any advice as to how I can establish communication with somebody in charge over there?

I have only had my HP printer break once, but it was in warranty and they replaced it. Basically if it is out of warranty, most of the time after one year is out of warranty unless you purchased a plan, than there is nothing they will do. Not even worth the fight, you will feel better later.

On a side note, $100 dollars is pretty cheap for a printer, what did you expect?

My current printer when purchased was $400 dollars.

    Buy a new one.

I expect the printer to outlive the cartridge....sad when they go so young. :(
