I have an IBM ThinkPad 760 ed as a back up to my desktop. I bought it a few years ago and never used it, but I want to add a wireless Internet to it, but have no clue how. I was just wondering what I would need to buy so I could have wireless Internet? I only have a floppy disk, too, however I would like to convert it to a cd drive with a usb port, but I don’t know which one to buy.

What typr of wireless do you want? You can get nationwide internet access thru a cell phone company like Verizon, Sprint, etc., by using what's commonly called a SIM card (SIM rhymes with Tim). Contact any cell company and explain what you want. Or, if you already have hi-speed internet at home (cable/DSL/broadband), you'll need a wireless router, and a PCMCIA or USB wireless ethernet adapter. If you just want to surf the web from coffee shops, college campuses, etc., just get the wireless adapter. If the laptop only has a floppy drive, and no CD drive, it probably REALLY old and may not support the current PCMCIA bus, and the laptop may not even have USB ports, which really limits what you can do. If you do have USB ports, and the laptop has Windows ME, 2000, or XP, then you can use any external CD drive, and it should plug-n-play without any driver install needed. If you're running Win95 or 98, you'll need a driver on a floppy disk.... you can also get a PCMCIA card with USB ports on it if the PC doesn't have built-in USB, but again, make sure that the new PCMCIA cards will work with your old PCMCIA bus.... I think it's PCMCIA I (on your laptop) and PCMCIA II on current laptops (16bit versus 32bit... I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!)

Here's a link to the tech manual for your laptop. Alot of it is fairly technical in nature, but quite informative none the less. Definitely worth a look (use Adobe Reader): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=PFAN-3TJKLN

I am going to buy a cd drive from Ebay and install it into the laptop. The only probably is that it will not have a usb drive. The laptop runs on Windows Me. I will only being using it occasionally on campus, so I will not need anything fancy, as I have a pretty nice desktop at home. Is there anyway a wireless adapter will work with this dinosaur of a laptop?

Like I said, if there's no USB, then you'll need a PCMCIA wireless ethernet adapter that is compatible with your PC. The drivers will be on a CD so be sure to get that installed first, then go to any PC store (bring the laptop) and get yourself the wireless adapter and have the tech at the store install it and test it for you to make sure it's working. It shouldn't cost more than $30 or $40 to get it set up.....
