I'm having a problem with this t42 ibm notebook, i charge the computer and when i turn it on...it attempts to boot but after the windows screen is displayed the screen goes black nothing is seen. The harddrive symbol stops lighting up and its like the computer is not even on :confused

We are guessing that there might be an issue with the hard drive itself!? If so i want to try fixing it myself but before i open the think pad i would take any recommendations into mind.

    thx

Have you tried booting into safe mode? It could be that the video driver is outside the range so when it loads the screen goes black.

Also remove the battery, attach it to the power outlet, turn it on and see if it exhibits the same behavior.

It seems to work fine now that its plugged to the power outlet, but it is slow and makes a continous processing sound ....there are symbols lit up indicating the hard drive and something else im not 100 percent sure, but i'll look it up shortly
    thx
