IBM ThinkPad

I need some suggestions on how to un-partition a 20g hard drive on an IBM ThinkPad, so I can install a clean version of Windows XP. The partition C: is 2g and partition D: is 17g. They want 1-20g partition.

It does not have a floppy drive, only a CD/DVD player. I made a bootable Win '95 CD and a bootable Win '98 CD so I could use FDISK, but it will not boot to the CD's.

I tried every PF-key to try to get to the BIOS to allow it to boot from CD, but could not get it to go to the BIOS.

I even copied every version of FDISK and FORMAT that I could find to the D: partition, but none of them would run, because the versions are too old to run under Windows XP.

It currently has a messed up version of Windows XP and two not-working-at-all versions of Windows NT. Who ever had it before me just started deleting folders off the hard drive and now a lot of programs no longer work. The Windows XP will run, but that is it.

    Thanks,

Thanks. I got into the BIOS and changed the setting to boot from CD. I can now boot from the CD, but still cannot run FDISK or FORMAT. I am still getting a message saying the software versions is to old to run on this system.

Do you know if there is a version of FDISK that will run under Windows XP?

    Thanks,

Yea, I was in the Files/Drive Utilities section, looking at some partition software for a one-time-fix-it-run.

For the ones that I read, if I read them correctly, do not have all the 'features' until you buy. What 'features' they are talking about, I do not know.

    I'll look some more.

    Thanks,

Boot off of the XP CD, repartition and format through there.

Anything else is more difficult than need be.

Sorry for taking so long to reply back. I finally got it to work. I made another copy of XP off of the original and it worked correctly. Do not know why the other copy did not work, but it would not repartition. Oh, well ....

    Thanks everyone for the help.
