Setting up a new computer is tough these days when companies like IBM decide that manuals can be replaced by little blurbs on the screen. (User friendly they call it - which means for the illiterate who can't read books.) Now we sure do need Major Geeks!
I hate my touch pad deciding to send off my e-mails before they're done, and suddenly doing its thing in other ways. I presume I may have tapped it, though I just think the touchpad has a mind of its own! I know the silly thing can be disabled, but can anyone give a good explanation of how to do it?

The tiuchpad setting should be covered in TimW's link

but if your PC is sending off emails before you really want to send them, then it depends on which email software your using...

    Outlook Express
Should have the option in Tools > Options > Send to uncheck "send immediatly" which allows you to only send mail when you want by clicking send all or send/recieve.

Outlook ( only tested with office 2003 )
Options > Mail Settings and untick .. send immidiatly when connected.

    maybe worth checking the settings?

Thanks Tim W and Halo. That's very impressive touchpad info. and I'll check it out. What I want to do goes beyond e-mail. I want to totally disable UltraNav. This laptop is 2722R40, the Operating System is XP Professional. It was an off-lease purchase, which I upgraded to 500 RAM, and it's a nice little pal to have around! Just had some problems to start, and dislike UltraNav.

Click Start, select Programs, and look for ThinkPad or Access IBM.
If ThinkPad is in the list, select ThinkPad, select ThinkPad utilities, and then click ThinkPad Configuration.
If Access IBM is in the list, select Access IBM and then click ThinkPad Configuration.
    Click the UltraNav icon.
    Select Automatic or AutoDisable.
Verify that the UltraNav and TrackPoint are set appropriately (Enabled or Disabled), by clicking Mouse properties and then the UltraNav or TrackPoint tab.
