Icon gone, program still running

I am running a distributed computer program. The program is running but the tray icon has vanished. How can I get the icon back since I can't get the screensaver up without the icon?

If it's running on a laptop you might have to do a shut-down restart instead of stand-by sleep mode. If that doesn't work, how about trying to re-install the program?

Which Windows Version?

If XP.. then the icon may just be hidden, especially if you have loads in the system tray.. there maybe a little arrow the the left of the system tray click that to show any hidden ones.

or Click Start > Settings > Taskbar and Start Menu > Next to Hide Inactive Icons click Customise > look down the list for the programs name click it and in in the Behaviour Box choose Always Show > OK > Apply

Have you rebooted the explorer shell, I find that lot of times when explorer crashes and restarts itself some of the icons that were originally in the notify area are no longer there itunes is one program that suffers from this but just attempting to run it from its shortcut wll bring the running process into focus and restore the icon. if its a program that has no work open that you will lose you can kill of the process and rerun it if halos fix doesn't work
