icon problems

i have addressed this problem in the malware group and performed all the maintenance and cleaning procedures suggested. no joy. soooo, i'll try to get some help here. my desk top icons all have changed to internet explorer icons. i am unable to access any programs by clicking on them (with the exception of my web browser, google and bellsouth web mail account). when i double click on, say, quicktime, i get a security warning pop up asking me if i want to save or open the file. the file name extentions for these pop ups end in .Ink. if i choose to either open or save the file it just drops out and returns with the same pop up. anyone have a clue?
