I generally use Mozilla as my browser which is opening up fine, but need to go to IE and it won't open. I noticed the problem last week also when I clicked on the itunes icon. The small circle would rotate a few times and nothing would happen. Clicking on the Mozilla icon is working fine. What should I check/do next? Running Windows 7 on HP

You will need to explain more clearly what you mean by 'icons aren't opening'. That doesn't actually mean anything.
What icons are you talking about?
If by 'Mozilla' you mean Mozilla Firefox, then please say so.

Max is right, you need to provide more information, also what version of Windows are you running ? Is it updated ?
Have you tried resetting IE ?

OP is using some flavor of Win 7.

Where is the icon for IE located? Possible answers are: on my desktop, down in the bar near the orb(start button), in the programs list when I click the orb.

If it is in the program list, is it at the top or is in in the list of all programs?

Click the orb and in the search/run box type
    Code:
    iexplore.exe
    then press enter. What happens?

Sorry for the confusion. To add to the confusion, I needed to get to IE for work, so I was able to do a system restore to last checkpoint last month and it is now working. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what troubleshooting can be done at this time. Max-I'm using Mozilla Firefox as my browser and that is the only desktop icon(shortcut) that is responding when clicked on. The other desktop icons and programs in the start menu would briefly show the small blue circle rotating, but would not go to the site. Nick- Said I was using Windows 7 and it is updated. I guess I'm not sure how to reset IE if I can't get to it. Plodr-IE was in the start menu, 3rd down after 2 Microsoft office items, it is also in the all programs list about a third down. There currently is no desktop icon, but I was also having trouble with other desktop icons such as itunes. When I entered iexplore.exe it took me to IE. So like I mentioned, it probably doesn't tell us much since I restored. If this would happen again, this would be the next step to take? Anything else? Thanks

I wanted to determine if your desktop icons were corrupt (that's why I asked exactly what you were clicking to try to open IE) because it sounds like they are. Particularly since hardly any icons on your desktop respond properly.
The fact that IE opens when you put in in the search/run box tells us, it is located where it should be in the Operating System and works.

When an icon on the desktop doesn't open a program, you can right click, select properties and see where it points to. If it isn't the proper place, remove the desktop icon. Next find the program in the list (at the bottom, not at the top with the recently used programs) right click the program and select Send To. Select Desktop (create shortcut) and you now have a working icon.
