    hi,
I have installed Coral's Paint Shop Pro and the icon is not displaying properly. It is a default windows file icon instead of the proper PSP icon. I also installed Serif's PagePlus and PhotoPlus and the same icon has appeared for them as well.

All the other programs have the proper icon alloted to them... has anyone any idea how I can change these icons to the correct ones. Has anyone any idea why this has happened!

I know this is a minor problem as the programs themselves work just fine, but it is annoying me (sad person!!)

What happens when you double click that icon, does the program start?

What if you were to right click on that icon, then select properties, then select "change icon".

Can you then pick the icon to use?

Could it be that your icon cache is overloaded/full. If so this can be fixed by assigning more memory to it. I had a similar problem once and found a solution but cannot for the life of me remember what I did. It involved editing a registry entry. The experts here will probably be able to point you in the right direction

Found it. After going down TheeFools track which seems to me to be the first thing you do, this is what I did to increase the size of my Icon Cache
    In the registry Go to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer

In my case I edited the entry Max Cached Icons to read 8192

Be aware though that editing registry can invite disaster. Backup the registry first.

Thanks for your help. When I double clicked the program icon, it did load the program. I went to properties but the change icon button was greyed out. I looked in the registry at the icon cache and it was already set at 8192. In the end I went to the windows folder in explorer and deleted the shellIconCache. When I re-booted, all was fine. Hopefully this has solved the problem. I think it was a corrupt file in the Icon Cache itself. So thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. lol.
