Icons not transparent...

I've seen this problem before and can't remember how I fixed it. The icons on the desktop are set to be transparent but they aren't. They have a blue background and are outlined in blue. If I make a new user profile that will fix it but I don't want to mess with the existing user profile settings. I think this happens after smitrem is run also but not sure if that was run on this PC.

If I understand your question correctly, go to Start > Control Panel > System. Then click the Advanced tab, then under Performance click the settings button. Scroll down and make sure that the "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" option is checked.

 

Already did that. Confirmed the user had previously removed a desktop hijack and I remember seeing somewhere that it is a side effect of desktop hijack removal that causes that. Can't remember where I saw it or googled to it last time. Thanks for the reply though...

 

it also has something to do with active desktop being enabled.

Open Display Properties.
Click the Desktop tab.
Click the Customize Desktop button.
Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
Make sure everything is unchecked.

2. Open Control Panel -> Display Properties -> Desktop-tab -> Customize Desktop-button -> Web-tab -> Uncheck "Lock desktop items".
